“Doctor Slump” Park Shin Hye Comments She Experienced a Slump in Her Life

Doctor Slump

The production team behind the upcoming JTBC weekend drama “Doctor Slump” recently unveiled a series of stills featuring Park Shin Hye in her role as Nam Ha Neul, a dedicated anesthesiologist who finds herself caught in the throes of a professional and personal downturn.

Set within the walls of a university hospital, the stills capture Nam Ha Neul amid her fellowship, grappling with the intense and competitive demands of hospital life. The images poignantly depict her as a tireless caregiver who, in her pursuit of patient care, often neglects her own well-being, leading to a visible loss of vitality in her expressions.

Further stills present Nam Ha Neul in a different light, wandering the streets in her surgical attire, with tears brimming in her eyes. This poignant visual stirs curiosity about the challenges she faces that push her to the brink.

Adding another layer to her character’s emotional journey, one particular image shows her in an unfamiliar setting, marked by a complex and tense expression that hints at the internal struggles she endures away from the hospital environment.

Park Shin Hye shared insights into her connection with the character, noting, “I believe everyone encounters a slump at some point in their lives; I’ve certainly experienced my own. It was the emotional depth of Ha Neul’s experiences that resonated with me and influenced my portrayal of her.”

She elaborated on her approach to depicting the character’s emotional evolution, “In preparation for this role, I consulted with a psychiatrist to better understand how people with depression actually function. Contrary to common belief, they aren’t lethargic all the time but experience a range of emotions and sometimes find it hard to navigate through difficulties. This understanding helped me shape Ha Neul’s journey from lethargy and anxiety towards healing, aided by her family and Jeong Woo [played by Park Hyung Sik].”

“Doctor Slump” is set to premiere on January 27 and will be available for streaming on Netflix. This K-drama promises to deliver a story that resonates with anyone facing personal adversities, offering a narrative woven with healing, resilience, and the everyday heroics of ordinary lives.
